Article reblogged from Hope Shores of A Flattering Tale:

Although we’ve lived in New York for about a year and a half, we hardly ever go to Brooklyn. I realize that this borough (known outside of the city as the hipster capital of the world/where Jay-Z grew up) is relatively close to where we live. I’m not sure why we haven’t explored more of what Brooklyn has to offer, but when Snapette asked me to do a little boutique shopping on their behalf, I jumped at the chance.

If you haven’t heard, Snapette is a special little app (created by Sarah Paiji and Jinhee Anh Kim) that helps you find exactly what you’re shopping for based on partnerships with stores and crowd-sourced images. With Snapette, you can snap photos of your favorite clothing items in boutique and share them on the app for others to use as shopping guides. Now, when you’re out and about and aren’t sure where to turn, you can trust Snapette to give you a frame of reference for the area. I first heard about this remarkable app last fall, and Snapette was recently named as one of the most innovative companies of 2013 by Fast Company. Definitely check out the app if you haven’t already (warning: it can be addictive.)

Inspired by my marathon training last fall, my friends at Snapette created a little shopping marathon of popular boutiques and vintage stores in Brooklyn.

Eva Gentry Consignment, 371 Atlantic Avenue (near Hoyt-Schermerhorn St. stop)
In Boerum Hill, a beautiful consignment shop is nestled in a row of other shops and restaurants. Named for its owner, Eva Gentry specializes in offering unique designer pieces at affordable pieces. Featured in Conde Nast TravelerNew York Magazine and Racked, Eva Gentry brings you a range of wears from luxe Miu Miu heels ($198) to timeless Bass loafers ($59). Bohemian Anna Sui dresses ($110) and edgy Marc Jacobs boots ($130) line the shelves. At these prices, you’ll definitely want to pay this boutique a visit.

Jumelle, 148 Bedford Avenue (near the Bedford Avenue stop)
Lucky Magazine favorite shines in Williamsburg. You’ll feel instant sartorial lust upon entering Jumelle, a carefully crafted boutique by owner Candice Waldron, a former Emmy-nominated broadcast journalist. Opened in 2006, Jumelle is named after the French word for “twin”—Candice’s twin sister Carla is the boutique manager. Also featured in New York Magazine as one of Brooklyn’s must-visit boutiques, Jumelle features high-end clothing from renowned designers (Isabel Marant, Sonia Rykiel and Rag & Bone decorate the showroom walls). I was immediately drawn to Jumelle’s mix of feminine and timeless, innovative and vintage-inspired.

I fell in love with the mixture of rose gold knits and printed silk dresses. I dream of owning a wardrobe composed of gorgeous pieces from Jumelle.

Amarcord Vintage, 223 Bedford Avenue (near the Bedford Avenue stop on the L train)
This shop in the heart of Williamsburg embodies the spirit of a classic vintage store. The space in Amarcord Vintage is small, but every square inch is utilized with racks of clothing, shelves of accessories and tables in the middle. If your personal style gravitates to bulky sweaters, printed shorts and 80s-style sequins, add Amarcord to your shopping itinerary. I found a beautiful vintage Coach bag (that looked exactly like the new legacy collection) for a fraction of the retail price. Definitely worth a moment if you’re in the area, but you can also shop their designer wares online.

Narnia Vintage, 672 Driggs Avenue (near the Bedford Avenue stop)

The bare-bones, bohemian space of Narnia Vintage feels like Eastern style combined with Western chic. The shop’s second location, the little nook in Brooklyn boasts lots of leather, fringe and knitted pieces. Think Woodstock meets Haight-Ashbury. Neil Young on scratched vinyl plays as you cruise through racks of hipster-chic vintage, and the small yet ethereal space calls to mind the escapist fantasy of the store’s namesake.

New Collection at H&M: Haute So Fabulous Reports

Our Guest Blogger Haute So Fabulous reports on the new H&M collection. Check out Haute So Fabulous’ Snapette profile to see the first glimpse of the H&M collection available in store.

H&M’s latest collection to hits stores lives up to the high standards of fabulosity we’ve come to expect from this trendy shopping hot-spot.

Their latest collection, aptly named ‘The New Icons’ is based on the off-duty style of four of fashions most influential ladies: Joan Smalls, Daphne Groeneveld, Lindsey Wixson and Liu Wen-set. These hard working girls, who also are the stars of the collections campaign, are just as chic and fabulous in their day-to-day life as they are in the beautiful photo-shoots and catwalks they lend their delightful selves to & this collection reflects that to perfection.

This pre-summer range is in stores now. For more information go to hm.com for lots of fun photos & information on this super chic collection & make sure to check out the Snapette App, snapette.com for your daily window-shopping fix.

Snapette: Tell us about how you became a jewelry consultant. What kinds of projects do you work on with brands and how do those differ from the projects you work on with personal clients?

I was 21, fresh out of college, teaching languages at a High School when I decided to get an internship doing “something in fashion”. That summer, I got an internship at a product development company that needed someone who spoke Italian to help with the factories they did production with in Italy. While they did developments for mostly ready to wear and some accessories, I started working with a few jewelry clients and really took a liking to that. From there, I focused on growing their jewelry program and met some great clients that I still have to this day.

When I work with brands, it is usually on a larger scale than when I work with a private client. Design houses usually need me to help facilitate their product developement and coordinate their mass production to ensure that from conceptualization to finished product, their initial design does not get lost and is able to be translated for production as purely and efficiently as possible.

Private clients are usually in search of one particular piece. A lot of times the client is looking for both a ring and a pair of earrings or a combination of pieces however, the designs are generally one of a kind unlike working with brand.

Kiss N Tell Snap 1

There are particular nuances working for both private clients and brands but knowing that I have helped the designs go from sketch or concept to an actual piece of jewelry is what I truly love and both avenues allow me to pursue my passion.

2. What prompted you to start a blog? Tell us about what kinds of stories you have up your sleeve.

My husband and I were in Napa with some friends of ours who gave us the great news that they had just gotten engaged. She is a school teacher and he is a VP of an internet company and they really didn’t know where to begin the process of searching for a stone. They were going to be in NYC for a brief three day stint and I said I would take them diamond shopping. I gave them a crash course on what we will be doing and what they should look for in a diamond.

They left NYC with more money in their pocket than they expected and instead of just a diamond, they got a diamond, a setting and also her wedding band to match. Being a savvy internet guy, he suggested I start blogging about what I do because there are so many couples like them that could benefit from some insider tips. I sat on that for a while until I thought of a good way to go about it. I loved the idea of creating a reference guide of useful tips and fun jewelry stories from and insider’s point of view that you can read for fun or to educate yourself.

Kiss N Tell Snap 2

Some of the upcoming stories we have slated are a mix of great diamond buying tips along with just fun information on cool people in the business and brands.

3. How did your love for diamonds develop?

Mariana with her husband, channeling Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman

I have been a jewelry lover ever since I can remember. When I was growing up we would play house with my brother and sister and I remember creating unique jewelry for every outfit out of string, wire or whatever else was lying around.

My love for diamonds grew out of a respect for their rare beauty that is born from a polar opposite element such as carbon. The transformation is really remarkable to me and the amount of time both natural and man hours that it takes to create such a precious object really drives home the point that you cannot rush perfection and I love that.

4. How do you use the Snapette app to sync with your blog and jewelry finds?

I love using Snapette as a way to give readers a sneak peek as to what is going to be on the blog. For example, if I go shopping with a client, I use Snapette to take a few snap shots as we are out and about. It is really easy and allows the reader to interact with me and creates a two-way conversation.

Kiss N Tell Profile Snapette

I also use Snapette to keep track of things and stores I love. I take a quick snap shot of the item on Snapette and it allows me to upload it and tracks the location so I don’t have to remember. It is such a great tool when I am on the run, which is almost always!

5. How has technology changed the way that you are able to do your job?

Technology has enabled me to do my job quicker and more efficiently. I am able to communicate with my jewelry factories over seas on a daily basis with tools such as Skype that allow us to interface and add a face to the name. I am able to see stones from all over the world on my computer to help me better understand the market and pass better information and pricing to my clients.

Obviously, blogging would not be possible without technology. Blogging was created so that we can share our thoughts with one another instantaneously no matter where you are in the world. Apps like Snapette really tie us all in and allows the process to come full circle…from the designer to the developer to the consumer who uploads it and gives direct feedback on your work.

Sneak Peak: Ann Taylor Fall 2013 Presentation

Snapette was invited to the Ann Taylor Fall Presentation and our eyes couldn’t have been more pleased!

The problem we always face when attending fashion shows and presentations is that the designers and brands are displaying collections two seasons in advance. For the past two months our team has been wishing for warmer weather, but after seeing all the ivy collegiate inspired jackets and coats, we find ourselves craving Fall again!

Looks like a deep turquoise will be very in later this year.

Thick structured tops, textured dresses and skirts, and jewel tone gems and accessories were featured in their Fall/Winter collection. You might see why we’re so excited! At least we can plan and save now with every intention of purchasing these pieces come August.

Until then, we’ll have to delight ourselves with their Summer collection! Check out Snapette’s picks below, and for even more products, look up your nearest Ann Taylor Store on Snapette.
