London-based shoe designer Tracey Neuls collaborated with furniture and product designer Tord Boontje in an exclusive collection for Selfridges.
Tracey’s London boutique is featured on Snapette:
Both designers love…squirrels? Tracey and Tord have a special affection for the nasty little beasts (kidding! the darling little creatures).
Tord is especially known for laser cutting, which he utilized in Tracey’s shoes to create gorgeous leaves for an autumnal look.
Perhaps the animalistic inspiration for the collection is not so unusual for Tracey, who likens the attachment to shoes as a similar relationship that one has for pets: “Emotion plays a big part in design. The shoe should at first be beautiful, but it is more the long lasting feeling that I am interested in. Like a pet, the attachment to your footwear should grow stronger with time. ”
Tord’s work emphasizes story telling: “I like my pieces to tell stories, or at least provide a beginning and you can make up your own narrative.”
The combination of narrative with squirrels results in an imaginative and inventive line that we adore.
The collection is available exclusively at Selfridges from August 27 – September 16, 2012. http://www.selfridges.com
